Meet Brent Talley, a Familiar Face with a New Mission
You’ve worked closely with independent pharmacies for years through your time at Dakota Drug. How did that chapter shape your career?
I moved to Fargo back in 1999 to help expand Dakota Drug’s presence in the region. It was a small, regional distributor out of Minot, and we worked hard to build up a strong base of customers, eventually expanding into the Minneapolis market. Because it was a smaller company, you really got to know each customer, not just their business needs, but who they are outside the pharmacy. That sense of partnership was at the heart of everything.
What did working with customers at Dakota Drug teach you about the unique needs and challenges of independent pharmacy owners?
The biggest lesson was about the importance of communication. Independent pharmacy owners are good people who just want to know what is going on in their businesses. Even when conversations aren’t easy, open communication builds trust. That foundation is essential, especially when you’re supporting local pharmacies that are navigating constant change.
What inspired you to make the move to IPC?
I already knew IPC by reputation. It’s well respected among independent pharmacies across the country. When I was approached about this opportunity, I saw it as a chance to bring something valuable to my longtime contacts, a new level of support through IPC’s broader network and services. It felt like a natural next step, and I knew it would be a great fit for many of the pharmacies I’d worked with over the years.
How are you approaching your first few months as Regional Director?
I’m bringing my contacts and experience to the table and working to align those with IPC’s strengths. I’ve been focused on keeping an open mind, learning from the team, and figuring out how to add value right away. Already, we’ve had stores reevaluate their business strategies and turn to IPC as a solution. That’s exciting to be a part of it.
What gives you hope about the future of independent pharmacy?
Independent pharmacists don’t often brag about it, but they’re the heartbeat of healthcare in many communities. Sometimes they’re the only healthcare professional in town. They help patients live healthier lives and often prevent more costly interventions like emergency care or long-term hospital stays. Independent pharmacy is the bridge between patients and the broader healthcare system, and that role is essential. That’s what keeps me hopeful.
And when you’re not working, what do you enjoy doing in your free time?
In the summer, I love gardening and taking care of the yard. I also think a lot about fishing. I probably talk about it more than I actually do it, but that’s half the fun. Just thinking about it makes for some great conversations.
With a legacy of service and a future-focused mindset, Brent is already building the trust he’s earned over decades in the field. IPC is proud to welcome him to the team and excited for what’s ahead for the members he serves.
