A Look Back at What We Built Together

For IPC, McKesson ideaShare has always been about showing up for independent pharmacy in a meaningful way. Last year, that showed up with packed conversations at the IPC booth, innovative sessions, surprise visits from pharmacy advocates on Capitol Hill, and one very powerful wall.

The “One Thing” wall.

After walking through IPC’s five pillars and having intentional conversations around growth, purchasing strategy, financial clarity, operational efficiency, and team empowerment, pharmacy owners were asked a simple but bold question:

What is the one thing you’re going to take back and implement?

The answers were honest, hopeful, and action-oriented. Launching new services. Reworking purchasing strategies. Investing in teams. Exploring digital health. Strengthening advocacy efforts.

Those sticky notes told a bigger story. Independent pharmacy is not standing still.

As one IPC member put it, “You go in thinking you know what you want to learn. But you come home with so much more. It’s a reset. It forces you to focus on the 20 percent of things that will have the biggest impact on your business and your patients.”

Why McKesson ideaShare Continues to Matter Today

Community pharmacy is navigating a lot. Reimbursement pressure hasn’t eased. Staffing challenges are still front and center. The demand for expanded services keeps growing, often without clear roadmaps on how to operationalize them sustainably.

And yet, independent pharmacy continues to rise.

McKesson ideaShare creates the space to step away from the day-to-day grind and think strategically about the future. Not in theory, but in real conversations with owners who are already doing the work.

“Pharmacy is changing fast,” shared IPC member Shelby Knott of Warren Pharmacy. “If you want to stay in this business, you need to evolve with it. ideaShare gives you real examples and real conversations to help you move forward.”

That’s the difference. This is not about chasing trends. It is about learning from peers, pressure-testing ideas, and building practical paths forward.

From Inspiration to Implementation

The stories that came out last year didn’t stay in Nashville.

Members launched long-term care at home programs after conversations with peers and vendors they met through IPC. Others began piloting telehealth and digital health solutions to close care gaps in their communities. Some made operational shifts that fundamentally changed how their pharmacies function day to day.

Hayes Lawson of Metropolis Drug II summed it up best: “You go in with a plan and return with a purpose.”

That’s the power of McKesson ideaShare when the right people are in the room.

So We Have to Ask

Did you write your one thing on the wall last year?

More importantly, how’s it going?

Maybe you checked it off. Maybe it’s still in progress. Maybe life happened and it’s been sitting on the back burner.

That’s okay.

This year is about picking the conversation back up.

IPC is excited to return to McKesson ideaShare not just to talk about what’s possible, but to help you move the needle on what matters most to your community pharmacy right now. Whether that’s finding margin, expanding services, empowering your team, or simply connecting with someone who gets it.

As Avery and Tim Dreier of Dreier Pharmacy shared, “There’s always something you might be missing, and ideaShare gives you the space to discover that.”

Looking Ahead with Intention

McKesson ideaShare remains a place where independent pharmacy shows up for itself.

IPC will be there to listen, collaborate, challenge assumptions, and help pharmacy owners see their next move more clearly.

Because no one should have to figure this out alone.

As IPC Board Chair Vicki Einhellig reminded attendees during last year’s Annual Meeting, “Independent pharmacy isn’t easy. But we’re strong, innovative, and relentless. We adapt. We serve. And we fight for the patients and communities who rely on us.”

That spirit is exactly why McKesson ideaShare matters. And why we’re excited to do it all again.
