Trucare Pharmacy offers free prescription delivery and they assist with transferring prescriptions. They also provide Diabetic & Medication Therapy Management, in response to the gap in communication between the patient and the provider. Any of their experienced pharmacists will meet with customers one-on-one to review prescription and non-prescription medications. They will explain how each medication works, why it is useful, the timing of the dose as well as any personal concerns or questions. They will examine effects from the combination of medications as well as show customers the proper response to any adverse effects. After the meeting, customers receive an action plan as well as a personal medication list.

IPC recently had the chance to speak with owner Bunmi Owojuyigbe directly about her pharmacy; read the full pharmacy profile interview below.

IPC:

Please tell us about your history as a pharmacy owner.

Bunmi:

“I started the pharmacy on January 5, 2016. The pharmacy is located in downtown Baltimore. We offer all the standard retail pharmacy services and medical equipment. I am the CEO for the business.”

IPC:

What are some of the struggles of being an independent pharmacist?

Bunmi:

“The main challenge to the pharmacy is the reimbursement. I believe this is an issue for all retail pharmacies.”

IPC:

What are the biggest rewards of being an independent pharmacist?

Bunmi:

“The most important aspect of working in the independent industry is that you have the time to talk with the patients, counsel them and create a relationship. In an independent pharmacy, the services go far beyond just giving medications to patients. Our patients see us as someone they can talk to and who is willing to listen to them. I chose to be an independent pharmacist firstly for the joy of being a business owner, and secondly to care for the people in the community.”

IPC:

How has your relationship been with IPC?

Bunmi:

“IPC has really assisted me in the prices provided for brand medications, and even generics. I love the service you provide and the way you look out for your customers. IPC has really helped my pharmacy to stay afloat in the midst of terrible reimbursement.”

IPC:

Are there any other special services your pharmacy offers that you’d like to highlight?

Bunmi:

“Apart from the pharmacy aspect we do provide medical equipment. We pay attention to the needs of the patient and we respond to their needs accordingly.”

IPC:

What is the surrounding community atmosphere?

Bunmi:

“The surrounding community is quite friendly; they look out for each other. There are a lot of businesses in the community and also in the surrounding residential areas. It is a vibrant and active community. I do participate in the neighborhood development activities. I'm still hoping to build more customers.”
