They offer military discounts, prescription savings cards, text alerts, online refills, Rx delivery and more! IPC recently spoke with pharmacy owner Roshan Patel.
IPC:

Can you tell me about your history as a pharmacist?

Roshan:

“I worked for retail for almost 17 years in chains, right here in Simi Valley. There was always a need for a better level of care, and more personalized service. Customers wanted pharmacists that understood their needs and could take care of their needs. They would always tell me how I took special care of them and how much they appreciated that. I would answer any drug interaction questions or OTC questions that they had. They would say how they wished there was a delivery service available and I would deliver to them (even when I worked for chains) because many times they were elderly patients and I knew how much they needed and appreciated that type of service. I didn’t charge an extra cost, I just took my own time to do it because I knew they needed it. From that, I thought that the pharmacy should be easily accessible – I thought if I opened my own pharmacy I could provide the extra services and consultations that aren’t always common practice at chains.

I wanted to provide the services to people who really needed it. Elderly people really want to have one person that they deal with and they can count on. They need that kind of assurance and relief; someone who knows what they are allergic to and what kind of interactions their medications will have. The one-on-one consultation and service is key. Right now I have a lot of senior patients that have come from big chains and they come here for the personal relationship. We also alert the doctor when the patients have refills coming due, so they know when they come here everything is set for them. They need somebody they know will take care of things – they wait a lot longer amount of time at other pharmacies. People enjoy the personal service and having someone who understands their medications.”

IPC:

What is the community like?

Roshan:

“It’s about 125,000 people; it’s not really a big town. There is a lot of competition, many chains.”

IPC:

Do you focus primarily on prescriptions? Is there a front-end section?

Roshan:

“We have a very good front-end section with pretty much anything a pharmacy would need. We have medical supplies, first-aid, braces, vitamins, cold and cough, snacks, drinks, etc.”

While we were chatting with Roshan, one of his customers overheard the interview and asked if he could include a personal testimonial. Lee Spilky (of Reliable Rooter Plumbing and Hester Plumbing) is a longtime customer and wanted to let us know how much he appreciates Roshan and his personal attention to patients.

From Customer Lee Spilky:

“I’m 68 years old, I’ve had two heart attacks and I’ve been working with Roshan ever since he opened up his pharmacy. Not only is he honest, but he meets my needs and is extremely careful with what he does. He gets you in and out, which is extremely important when you’re on medication – especially heart medication. As a customer and business owner, I am happy to refer Roshan to all my customers and friends. He doesn’t work for money – he gets paid to do what he loves. He is a really nice guy and very honest. Roshan is here to help people and he treats customers like a person not a number. Many people in town switch to this pharmacy because of the customer service. He makes sure clients understand what the medications are, what the side effects are, and his prices are good. He’s caring and he’s here to answer our questions.”

IPC:

How has your relationship been with IPC?

Roshan:

“I am so glad to be involved with IPC. I was informed about IPC from a friend who is a member, I found out about the diabetic supplies you carry, in addition to brand, generic and OTC. I order 75 percent of my prescription products now through IPC. I love the pricing. I am still a small pharmacy and I’m still growing, it’s been two years in May. We can get a huge bonus by getting that extra time, insurance companies don’t pay out right away so we have to wait a long time for that. IPC prevents us from having to play that catch-up game without being charged extra. It makes a huge difference; without IPC I would never see money in my account because the brand names are so expensive. At least we have a few days and a bit of a cushion with this flexibility. I can manage my account more properly. I appreciate my sales rep and everyone at IPC. “

IPC:

Any other special services you’d like to highlight?

Roshan:

“Delivery service and personalized care is the main thing we focus on. Our goal is that every customer should be happy and satisfied.”
