Attention IPC Members - Contact Your Senators on the Senate Finance Committee! Encourage them to Fix DIR in the Senate Finance Committee Drug Pricing Bill!

Jul 05, 2019

With no change in the Part D DIR process in the recently adopted HHS Part D rule, pharmacy is shifting all its focus to Congress for a fix to DIR fees that have increased over 45,000 percent since 2010.

One of your U.S. Senators, as a member of the Senate Finance Committee, has the power to fix retroactive DIRs. They can do so by working with Chair Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Ranking Member Wyden (D-OR ) to include a bill to move DIRs to point of sale (S. 988, Improving Transparency and Accuracy in Medicare Part D Spending Act) into a Prescription Drug Pricing bill that the Senate Finance Committee is expected to develop when Congress returns from its July 4th recess.

This is the BEST chance to end retroactive DIRs. Be a part of this FixDIR grassroots campaign over the next few days by:

  1. Contacting your Senator that serves on the Senate Finance Committee (roster and contact information here) by email or calling their main state office and tell them to add the DIR Fix bill (S.988) to the Senate Finance Committee's version of the Drug Pricing bill it will take up later in July.
  2. Tell your Senator the fix is needed for your Part D patients and you. Provide examples of where the PBM recouped your entire payment with a retroactive DIR that push your patients into the donut hole and hurt your ability to provide them needed prescriptions.
  3. Ask your Senator to visit your store during the July 4th break to see how Part D retroactive DIR's adversely impact your patient and your ability to serve them.
