We recently spoke with Bill and Sharon Drilling about Drilling, which has been in the family for 50 years. They discussed how much has changed since Bill’s parents took over the store and some of what they expect in the next 50 years. Bill and his brother Don took over from their parents in 1986 and grew the business from six employees to 60. The store has grown in many ways since the Drilling family bought it in 1970.

The 2020 election resulted in Rep. Buddy Carter (R – GA) being joined in Congress by independent pharmacy owner, Jerry Carl (R-AL CD 1) and pharmacist Diana Harshbarger (R-TN CD 1). These newly elected legislators will be in the House of Representatives in 2021. Also, State Auditor Matt Rosendale (R-MT), who spearheaded several Montana state PBM reforms, was elected as Montana’s Congressman. In the Senate, Rep. Roger Marshall (R-KS), a physician and strong independent pharmacy advocate, was elected to the U.S. Senate.

The IPC Political Action Committee eagerly supported Reps.-elect Carl, Harshbarger and Rosendale and Senator-elect Marshal. IPC’s Government Relations team looks forward to working with them to advance pro-independent pharmacy policies.

IPC’s Pharmacy Services Team continues to monitor COVID-19 developments to assist members in accessing essential information. This document outlines the steps pharmacists can take to position themselves as a COVID-19 vaccine provider as well as an overview of proposed vaccine reimbursements and billing codes. IPC was honored to support grand openings for three member stores in November, including the grand opening of Roe Family Lake View Pharmacy in West Point, UT on Saturday, November 14! About 150 people showed up for the event, an impressive turnout in spite of poor weather.

“It obviously ended up being a cold and windy day because we were doing a grand opening,” joked owner Hal Roe.

Roe spared no expense with his generosity. Those in attendance were treated to Dippin’ Dots, Melissa & Doug toys, gift cards, and tote bags filled with pens, first aid kits, pill boxes, children’s vitamins and more!

IPC also had the pleasure of sponsoring the grand openings of West Nyack Pharmacy and New City Pharmacy, both located just north of New York City.
