Opening a pharmacy is a hard endeavor on its own. Opening it during an international health crisis becomes a whole other challenge. Earlier this month the Pennsylvania State Senate Committee met to discuss the challenges of operating a rural pharmacy. A recording of this meeting is still available. We encourage Pennsylvania members to watch the video and reach out to their state senators about the package of PBM bills IPC is supporting in the state. The IPC Government Relations Team recognizes that rural pharmacies across the nation face these challenges and is monitoring legislation in several states.

On September 9th, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services authorized pharmacists and pharmacy interns to order and administer FDA-authorized or FDA-licensed COVID-19 vaccines to all individuals age 3 or older. To participate, pharmacists must be state-licensed and pharmacy interns must be licensed or registered by their state board of pharmacy as well as satisfy the listed requirements. October is American Pharmacists Month, a time where we recognize the important contributions that pharmacists make to health care and their communities. After COVID-19 brought grand opening and anniversary events to halt in the spring, the summer months saw new stores not only opening but celebrating, albeit in a cautious and socially distanced manner.

IPC had the pleasure of sponsoring grand openings for seven stores, a customer appreciation event for another, and a 25-year anniversary event!

On August 6, about 150 people were treated to the Grand Opening of K-Pack Pharmacy in Green River, WY (Pictured Above). During the event, attendees were offered refreshments and great food including hamburgers, hot dogs, and cookies. IPC was proud to support this event by donating a Kindle Fire and Echo Show along with 150 tote bags.

“People enjoyed themselves and we got some business out of it. For us it worked really well,” said Alma Killpack, K-Pack Pharmacy owner.
